USACE Galveston Project Management: Office of the Secretary of Defense names USACE Galveston and Fort Worth districts' "Warriors in Transition Complex" project #8 in "Top 20 Showcased American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 programs/projects." The WT in Fort Bliss, Texas, includes barracks for 232 wounded Soldiers, a Soldiers’ Family Assistance Center and administrative headquarters. The project was listed in the White House Report titled “100 Recovery Act Projects that are changing America.” Learn more at http://1.usa.gov/buInwD.
Equal Employment Opportunity: Dr. Rose Caballero received the 2012 NAACP Roy Wilkins Award, the highest recognition bestowed by the NAACP, in recognition of her outstanding diversity program, employment practices, educational incentives and community involvement. USACE Galveston District: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District celebrated the Corps’ 237th birthday with an awards ceremony, June 7, 2012, to recognize an Employee, Engineer and Supervisor of the Year, as well as to honor staff for their contributions to the community, state and nation. Congratulations to our winners: Sandra Arnold, Supervisor of the Year, William "Bill" Krampe, Employee of the Year and Mark "Steve" Peterson, Engineer of the Year. Additionally, Dwayne Johnson and Desiree Wilson were named the USACE Galveston Co-Regulators of the Year.
Public Affairs Office: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Public Affairs Office was recognized as the Government Communications Team of the Year at the Public Relations Society of America Houston Chapter’s 2012 Excalibur Awards, June 28.

Sims Bayou Project Office: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Southwestern Division announced USACE Galveston District Construction Control Representative Brent Granier as the recipient of the division’s 2012 Hard Hat of the Year Award. Presented annually to recognize excellence in construction quality management, Granier was selected as the Hard Hat of the Year Award recipient over contenders from four division offices across the USACE Southwestern Division.

USACE Galveston District: The USACE Galveston District was recognized with the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council's Nature Service Award. The award is given to an organization that has given credible service to some aspect of nature on the Island. The council expressed that the district has been a partner not only with the Corps Woods but with the East End Lagoon project.
Regulatory Branch: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Southwestern Division announced USACE Galveston District Regulator Dwayne Johnson as the recipient of the division's 2012 Regulator of the Year award.

Safety Office: The district is recognized for its exceptional contribution to the Southwestern Division Safety and Occupational Health Program. As a result of the combined efforts of the four Southwestern Division's districts, the division was awarded the Chief of Engineers Award of Excellence for FY2011.

Public Affairs Office: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Public Affairs Office was recognized with a Gold Award from the 2012 MarCom Awards competition for its USACE Galveston District employee newsletter – Sand Castle and an Honorable Mention for its website redesign.
