The commanders of South Pacific Division, Los Angeles District, Sacramento District and San Francisco District joined representatives from more than a dozen federal, state and local agencies at a signing ceremony for the Silver Jackets charter September 9 to demonstrate their commitment to reducing flood risk in California. Under the lead agency California Department of Water Resources, the Silver Jackets charter is the culmination of several years of hard work and showcases the willingness of these agencies to increase communication, coordination, collaboration and cooperation to reduce flood risk.

Mr. Tom Niedernhofer, in the red hard hat, was part of a team from USACE that conducted an information exchange with the Chilean army on the Urban Search and Rescue program. The USACE team also featured COL Eric McFadden Mr. Doug Wesemann and Mr. Jarrod Milligan, while the Chilean team included 30 members of the Chilean Army.  Key members present included LTG Luis Farias, the Land Forces Commander and MG Andres Silva, the Engineer Public Works Commander as well two Regional Commanders.
