NORTHERN RESIDENT OFFICE
The Northern Resident Office is located at Yongsan Garrison, Korea. Yongsan Garrison is a large military installation with PX, Commissary, child care facilities, recreational activities, and most amenities found on any large base. The most famous shopping district in Seoul - Itaewon, is right outside the gates.
With the long anticipated agreement between the Korean and US Governments regarding the relocation of Yongsan Garrison and the 2nd Infantry Division to areas south of Seoul, the workload in Areas I & II initially fell off with an expectation of more work as Yongsan is reconfigured. Uijongbu Project Office and Seoul Project Office fall under the Northern Resident Office.
The work at NRO offers a unique opportunity to expand your experience in an overseas environment. The Northern Resident Office Team numbers about 12 personnel. The normal initial tour in Seoul is three years. Employees have access to the DoD school system for Kindergarten through Grade 12. Anyone wanting to add a little adventure to their life and expand their horizons would find a tour with the Far East District a wonderful experience for the whole family.
UIJONGBU PROJECT OFFICE
The Uijongbu Project Office is located at Camp Red Cloud. The office is responsible for work in the Camp Casey enclave near Dongduchon and Uijongbu areas of Korea as well as the Western Corridor which extends up to the demilitarized zone. The office covers a large area and employees assigned to this office do a lot of daily traveling to cover their job sites. The office is located approximately 40km northeast of Seoul, and while most employees commute from the Seoul area; some choose to live in the surrounding area. The office has a Project Engineer, Secretary, and one Quality Assurance Representative. The Uijongbu Project Office offers some unique assignments with its work in the Western Corridor.
SEOUL PROJECT OFFICE
The Seoul Project Office consists of a Project Engineer, Office Engineer, Engineering Support Assistant, and five Quality Assurance Representatives. It is located on Main Post of Yongsan Garrison in Seoul and handles construction projects for the Seoul area (Yongsan and K-16). The office is located close to all the base facilities, including the Post Office, restaurants, Movie Theater, bowling alley, PX, and shops. The work handled by the office includes a large amount of JOC work. The normal tour is three years and civilian employees are entitled to all the same base privileges as the military in the area to include use of DoD schools for K-12, a large military hospital, use of Commissary and PX facilities, as well as all other recreational and community programs. At times the work is high visibility, and always challenging. The Seoul Project Office is one of the best tours on the Korean peninsula for individuals interested in trying a foreign assignment in a large, metropolitan city environment.
