What is Team Ships?
Team Ships mission is to acquire and support the current and future surface fleet for the United States Navy. Team Ships translates warfighter requirements into combat capability, building and supporting ships, boats and craft from cradle to grave, enabling our nation and its allies to project presence in peace, power in war, and assured access at all times.
Team Ships is led by the Program Executive Officer, Ships (PEO Ships) and the Deputy Commander for Surface Warfare, NAVSEA 21 (SEA 21). Team Ships acquires and supports the current and future surface fleet of destroyers, amphibious, auxiliary, and sealift ships, boats and special craft as well as ship inactivations and foreign military sales programs.

Which ship programs are managed by Team Ships?
Team Ships, comprised of PEO Ships and SEA 21, manages the acquisition, life cycle support, and ship inactivation and transfer of surface ships, boats and craft.
PEO Ships is organized into program offices responsible for the acquisition of ships, boats and small craft as well as support offices such as the Acquisition Management and the Electric Ships Office which assist in procuring government-furnished equipment and the integration of propulsion technologies, respectively.
NAVSEA 21 (SEA 21) is the dedicated life cycle management organization for the Navy's in-service non-nuclear surface ships, managing critical modernization, maintenance, training, inactivation and international Fleet support programs. SEA 21 was stood up in 2007 as NAVSEA’s single point of contact for complete life cycle support for the current Fleet and the principal interface with the Surface Warfare Enterprise. A key responsibility of SEA 21 is to sustain Fleet capability and readiness through improved maintenance and modernization practices across ship classes in order to reach the ship’s expected service-life.
