The Air Force Cryptologic Office with headquarters at Fort George G. Meade, Md., started operations in 1994 but didn't have an approved charter until 2009. It is the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency's primary cryptologic intelligence staff and representative in Washington, D.C. As such, it is the agency's liaison with the National Security Agency. AFCO has more than 40 people at three operating locations.
