As the U.S. Army winds down operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, some of the excess military equipment is finding a new home with military allies. Recently members of the Brazilian Army traveled to Anniston Army Depot in Alabama to inspect M88 Recovery vehicles under a security assistance program called "Excess Defense Articles" or EDA. Some of these M88s have been in the U.S. Army inventory since the 1960's and are no longer needed by U.S. forces. Of the 12 recovery vehicles available, four vehicles were selected by the Brazilian Army representatives.
