Col. Kloos joined DARPA in 2015 as the U.S. Air Force operational liaison and special assistant to the director. He is a command pilot with more than 2,100 hours, primarily in the F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-35A Lightning II, including 240 combat hours. He has served as an instructor pilot, standardization/evaluation flight examiner, weapons officer, functional check flight pilot and operational test pilot, and served in Operations Southern Watch, Northern Watch, Allied Force and Enduring Freedom.
He received his commission in 1994 as a graduate of the Northern Arizona University ROTC program and earned his wings at Euro NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training in 1996 at Sheppard Air Force Base (AFB). He commanded the 58th Fighter Squadron, Eglin AFB, and served as Vice Commander of the 53rd Wing, Eglin AFB.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Aerial Achievement Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Combat Readiness Medal with two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star device, Armed Force Expeditionary Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal with two bronze star devices, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal and a NATO Medal.
Col. Kloos received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University, a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from Trident University, and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He also completed courses at the Squadron Officer School (Maxwell AFB), Air Command and Staff College, Army Command and General Staff College, and the Air War College.
