Tricia Cantu (standing), chief of the Defense Health Agency’s Health Information Technology (IT) Investment Branch, discussed standardizing health IT processes to improve efficiency and save money. Cantu spoke during "The Changing World of Health IT Budgets Using a Zero-based Budget Review Process" at the Defense Health Information Technology Symposium (DHITS) in Orlando, Florida, on Aug. 3.
She was joined by Col. Jack Leech, deputy chief information officer for the Army’s Surgeon General (left); Col. Ray Jeter, chief medical information officer, Air Force Medical Service; and Cmdr. Gabriel Brown with the Navy Bureau of Medicine. The panelists said MHS GENESIS, the Military Health System’s new electronic health record, will integrate IT platforms across the services and help save costs.
