    The Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, is getting back to the basics and focusing on company live-fire training. During September, each company conducted a combined live-fire exercise that integrated ground forces, aviation, artillery and unmanned aerial systems while maneuvering and firing live ammunition. The exercise is a step towards the Army-wide initiative of getting back to a decisive action fight.

    Those passionate about making and eating barbeque flocked to the 5th Annual Bliss, Brews and Que Food and Music Festival at Freedom Crossing here Friday and Saturday.

    The event, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, welcomed 34 professional teams from all over the country to compete in various categories. Seventeen “backyard” teams competed and teams competing in pro and backyard contended for the Soldier’s Choice award.

    Anita Gutierrez agreed with her father, Korean War veteran Don Kuhlman, when he said they had “a good time” traveling to Washington, D.C., with Honor Flight Southern New Mexico Sept. 30 through Sunday. She had more to say, however. “We had a blast!” Gutierrez said.

    The two saw the Lincoln Memorial, the National World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the U.S. Air Force Memorial, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment "Bandits" hit the desert


Members of the 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment hit the desert hard Oct. 14, 2016 during Bradly Fighting Vehicle gunnery range.

The Soldiers ran multiple training lanes to hone their warrior skills, develop leadership ability on the "battlefield" and better execute operations as a team in the austere environment that is West Texas.

Current command policy regarding off-limits establishments can be found HERE.





Fort Bliss Access Control Points


Effective Saturday, 17 September 2016, the following changes will affect the Fort Bliss Visitor Control Centers (VCCs):

• Buffalo Soldier VCC will operate from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the week, including holidays.
• MSG Pena VCC will be closed indefinitely.
• Sheridan VCC will be closed indefinitely.
• Old Ironsides VCC will process Foreign Visitors and Special Access requests.

The following hours still apply for Fort Bliss VCCs:

• Chaffee VCC will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (including holidays), and will continue to process uncleared contractors.
• Old Ironsides VCC will continue to operate from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. (0500-2100) every day of the week, including holidays.

  • Operating a Motorcycle on Fort Bliss


    Safety is paramount in operating motorcycles on Fort Bliss, and protective equipment is crucial to keeping riders safe. Fort Bliss Standing Order #7 (dated 7 May 2015) requires the following personal protective equipment for anyone-military or civilian-operating a motorcycle on the installation: // View full statement here.

  • Speeding, parking reminder


    Fort Bliss officials would like to remind drivers to observe the speed limit throughout post, and that the speed limit on Sheridan Road is 25 mph.

    It is also important drivers do not use cell phones while driving and pedestrians make sure they walk on sidewalks.

    In terms of parking, drivers should always park in the same direction as the flow of traffic.

    The Fort Bliss Mass Warning and Notification system includes a mobile notification smartphone application in addition to several other forms of notification such as desktop alert, email, phone and text message.   • Recycling Center

    The Fort Bliss Recycling Drop Off Point is located in front of BLDG 1336 Marshall and open 24/7.
    Recyclables only accepted at the drop off site include PAPER, CARDBOARD (Flattened), SHREDDED (Tied in Clear Plastic Bag), ALL PLASTICS (No Styrofoam), ALUMINUM & TIN (No Liquids, No Food, No Tobacco).
    Place INK & TONER cartridges in green dumpster labeled INK & TONER.
    For assistance, please contact the recycling staff at BLDG 622 S Taylor or call 915-568-1537.

  • Fort Bliss Installation Operations Center

    The Fort Bliss Installation Operations Center can be reached at 744-1255 or 744-1254.

  • In-Processing

    The Education Center in-processing briefing is in the General Instruction Facility at East Fort Bliss every other Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. Army Regulation 621-5 requires Soldiers to in-process within 30 days of arrival. This a formal, detailed briefing conducted by the Education Center personnel and different from the one conducted at the Welcome Center. For information, call 568-5635.
