Tour NSWC Carderock Division Headquarters

Tour summary: The tour covers the fascinating 100 year history of the NSWC Carderock Division and includes visits to various large testing facilities, many of which are unique, including the David Taylor Model Basin, Circulating Water Channel, Rotating Arm and the Maneuvering and Seakeeping Basin, in addition the model shop where precise-scale models of all Navy ships and submarines, (some as long as 40 feet) are constructed for testing in the basins.

Tour length: one to two hours depending on the size of group.

Note: Tours are by appointment only. Procedure:  In order to submit a tour request, please call 301-227-1176 at least three weeks in advance. Tours are normally limited to groups of 20 and children must be at least 12 years of age.

Availability: Tours are given the third Thursday of every month at 10 am (excluding federal holidays).

Restrictions: Photographic equipment (still or video) is not permitted. U.S. citizenship is required.
