Drugs Covered by TRICARE
TRICARE covers most prescription drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
- The TRICARE Formulary is a list of generic and brand name prescription drugs that we cover.
- We don’t cover prescription drugs that aren’t necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of a covered illness.

As of October 1, 2015, a new law requires all TRICARE beneficiaries, except active duty service members, to get select brand name maintenance drugs through either TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery or from a military pharmacy. Beneficiaries who keep using a retail pharmacy for these drugs will have to pay the full cost.

The Defense Health Agency, Office of Program Integrity (DHA-PI) has received a significant number of concerns from our TRICARE beneficiaries regarding unsolicited attempts by “Call Centers” to encourage them to provide personal identifying information and health information so that they can allegedly provide prescribed cream medications to the TRICARE beneficiary.
