Welcome to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay

In February 1903, the United States leased 45 square miles of land and water at Guantanamo Bay for use as a coaling (fueling) station.

Navy Diver 1st Class Joshua Crowder places a SeaBotix Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Little Benthic (vLBV) 300 into the water of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay's Windjammer Pool, April 19. The Divers conducted an all day training of familiarization and maitenance on the ROV to familiarize themselves with the ROV's capabilities. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay's tenant command, Marine Corps Security Force Company (MCSFCO) held a Change of Command ceremony at the Marine Parade Field, June 6. MCSFCO Company Commander, Maj. Daniel Macsay was relieved by Maj. Jordan Schultz. Sailors present a hisotry timeline during the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month observance ceremony held in the Bulkeley Hall Auditorium, June 24.

Installation Information

Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is on the front lines for regional security in the Caribbean area. The base supports the ability of U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships, along with allied nation ships to operate in the Caribbean area by providing contingency and quality logistical support with superior services and facilities. The base also supports the Department of Homeland Security in U.S. migrant operations to help care for displaced migrants from the surrounding area, effectively helping control the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.
