SECNAV visits USS Dwight D. Eisenhower at sea — Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus visited Sailors aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (Ike) as the ship continues its pre-deployment work-up cycle off the coast of Florida, Dec. 4. Upon his arrival, Mabus was welcomed by Rear Adm. Jesse Wilson, Commander, Strike Group 10, Capt. Paul Spedero, Ike's commanding officer, and Capt. Jeffrey Anderson, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3's commanding officer.
New Navy OPSEC App is Out — The Navy released its new mobile Operations Security app designed to make annual training requirements more accessible to Sailors December 3. The Naval OPSEC Support Team (NOST) from Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Norfolk, worked closely with Navy Education and Training Center (NETC), Sea Warrior Program (PMW 240) and TRACEN Technologies to develop the app.
2015 Navy Community Service Environmental Stewardship Flagship Award Winners Announced — Vice Adm. Philip H. Cullom, deputy chief of naval operations for Fleet Readiness and Logistics (N4) announced the winners and honorable mentions in the 2015 Navy Community Service Environmental Stewardship Flagship Awards Dec. 2. Annually, the awards program acknowledges the most distinguished Navy volunteer service projects that support environmental stewardship.
CNP Stresses Modernizing Training, Learning at I/ITSEC — Vice Adm. Bill Moran, the Navy's top personnel officer, stressed the importance of modernizing the way the Navy and U.S. military train, during his keynote address at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), Dec. 1. The conference, which is the world's largest modeling and simulation event, brought together members from industry, academia, government and each military service.
CNO, MCPON Spend Thanksgiving with Truman Strike Group — Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens spent Thanksgiving with Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and the destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84). CNO and MCPON conducted an all-hands call over the shipboard information, training, and information television (SITE TV), frocked the crew's newly advanced Sailors and served Thanksgiving dinner on the mess decks.
Academy Leadership Remembers 1983 Army-Navy Game — U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) and U.S. Military Academy (USMA) leadership gathered at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., Nov. 30, to remember the 1983 Army-Navy football game played in the famous stadium. USNA Superintendent Vice Adm. Ted Carter was joined by Army West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen and a large group of local dignitaries and local graduates from both institutions to mark the anniversary of the game, the only time the famous rivalry was played west of the Mississippi River. The games are traditionally played on the East Coast, most often in Philadelphia.
Oceanographer Visits 5th Fleet For Cooperative Events — This month, Oceanographer of the Navy and Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet visited the U.S Naval Forces Central Command/Commander U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) for events marking cooperative efforts in naval hydrography and oceanography.
Navy Receives Government Agency of the Year Award — The Navy received the Government Agency of the Year Award at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) National Conference in Baltimore on Nov. 15. Rear Adm. Jeffrey W. Hughes, commander, Navy Recruiting Command (NRC), was in attendance to accept the award on behalf of the Navy and addressed the crowd of nearly 1,000 professionals, educators and students.
USNS Maury Completes Acceptance Trials — USNS Maury (T-AGS 66) completed Acceptance Trials, Nov. 6, following a week of extensive ship tests and underway events. The T-AGS 66 Acceptance Trials, the final evaluation of the ship prior to delivery, included testing of major propulsion, auxiliary, damage control and deck systems.
