The Identity Synchronization Service (IdSS) is a service utilized to populate Combatant Command/Service/Agency (CC/S/A) directories and Global Address Lists (GALs) with authoritative enterprise identity and contact attributes. IdSS collects identity and contact data for all DOD Common Access Card (CAC) holders and Non-Person Entities (NPEs) provisioned by DOD Enterprise Email (DEE) from authoritative sources, and grooms that data, as required. The identity and contact data includes person and persona data elements, including Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates. The primary sources for this data are DMDC's Person Data Repository (PDR) for DOD person and persona data and DISA’s Global Directory Service (GDS) for user PKI email certificates. IdSS is available on both the Non-secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) and the Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet).
CC/S/As can either receive batch updates of IdSS data via the IdSS Machine Interface (IdMI) or perform real-time queries for individual records using the Enterprise Directory Query Service (EDQS).
IdSS also provides the identity and contact data used to deliver Enterprise Applications, including DEE, the DOD Enterprise Portal Service (DEPS), and the DOD Enterprise White Pages.
VALUE TO OUR MISSION PARTNERS
IdSS provides CC/S/As with an authoritative source for user identity and contact data to support local directory provisioning and GAL population. This allows applications to reduce their infrastructure footprint and IT expenditures for managing and administering user accounts. Additionally, IdSS helps CC/S/As achieve compliance with the DOD Chief Information Officer (CIO) EDS Memo, dated January 23, 2013.
