The Army G-8: Soldiers as our Centerpiece
The Army G-8 is the Army’s lead for matching available resources to the defense strategy and the Army plan. We accomplish this through participation in OSD–led defense reviews and assessments, the programming of resources, material integration, analytical and modeling capabilities, and the management of the Department of the Army studies and analysis. The G-8 team is made up of one field operating agency—the Center for Army Analysis (CAA), three directorates—the Army Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) Office, Program Analysis & Evaluation (PAED), and Force Development (FD),—and the Army Study Program Management Office (ASPMO). The G-8 team works to plan, develop, and resource programs supporting Soldiers by balancing Current Force needs with Future Force capabilities.
Army Equipment Modernization StrategyThe Army Equipment Modernization Strategy nests with the Army Operating Concept and describes how the Army will modernize equipment to Win in a Complex World. The Army must be equipped to protect the homeland, foster security globally, project power and win. Our objectives are to Enhance the Soldier for Broad Joint Mission Support, Enable Mission Command, and Remain Prepared for Joint Combined Arms Maneuver. The Army will invest in and deliver future force capabilities to maintain overmatch against increasingly capable and determined adversaries. Vital modernization efforts will be balanced with end strength and readiness to mitigate mid-term risk. |
Army Equipment ProgramIn 2017, readiness is the Army’s number one priority while assuming risk in modernization. This plan describes how the Army’s equipment program ensures Soldiers and formations maintain a decisive edge over all potential adversaries. The priorities and objectives to ensure readiness are threefold: to Prepare for Joint Combined Arms Maneuver, Enable Mission Command, and Enhance the Soldier for Broad Joint Mission Support. The President’s Budget request for 2017 prioritizes our modernization in Aviation, the Network, Integrated Air Missile Defense, Combat Vehicles, and Emerging Threats. These priorities allow the Army to be equipped to win in a complex world against evolving threats under widely varied conditions and geographies. |
