DOD Public Web is a premier enterprise cloud service provider of Web services for Department of Defense organizations.

The mission of the DOD Public Web (DoDPW) program is to provide a DoD enterprise-level cloud service consisting of Web hosting using a consolidated content management system to provide information sharing and economies of scale for the Department of Defense.  Currently, the DoDPW program supports the flagship websites for DoD (www.defense.gov), the U.S. Air Force (www.af.mil), the U.S. Navy (www.navy.mil), the U.S. Marine Corps (www.marines.mil), the Army Corps of Engineers (www.usace.army.mil), The Joint Chiefs of Staff (www.jcs.mil) and over 700 military and DoD websites. Services provided include Web development, Web design, system engineering, network operations, security, training, migration support, web analytics, email marketing and helpdesk services for publicly-accessible websites and social media blogs. This program supports the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer (DoD CIO) initiative for enterprise services to greatly reduce unnecessary spending for custom development of web presences across the Department of Defense and the Military Services.

DoDPW offers Content Management System (CMS) options for both our website and blog sites that can be easily accessed to update content from anywhere that requires no special software, only an internet browser and a DOD/Military CAC. Any client websites hosted by DoDPW will use our content management system referred to as AFPIMS (American Forces Public Information Management System). AFPIMS is a, browser accessible content management system (CMS). The primary purposes of our AFPIMS CMS is for DoD public websites to be standardized, have the ability to share content and to help save the Department unnecessary costs that have been expended due to costly Web development and customization that has occurred across the Department. Any client blog sites hosted within the DODLive environment operated by DoDPW will also use a standard CMS to update their blog content and use available themes and plugins supported by Public Web.

DOD Public Web currently provides enterprise search capabilities which are provided in collaboration with USASearch.gov, the federal government’s official search engine managed by the U.S. General Service Administration (GSA).

A content distribution network (CDN) is used to enhance the delivery of content across the globe and provides an additional security layer to minimize security risks to the DoD networks associated with large scale hacker activity.

Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) is in place to ensure that client web presences are able to continue performance of essential functions under a broad range of emergency circumstances.

Upon request by clients, DOD Public Web may offer optional features such as E-Mail products and surveys that may incur additional cost for the requester(s).

Guidance is provided to any new DOD/Joint clients who require new web domain name(s) or a social media blog presence to be hosted by DOD Public Web. For new DOD/Joint clients who require the transfer of an existing website, they will need to complete a hosting survey. Upon approval, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will need to be initiated and all new client users will be required to complete DOD Public Web orientation (information release training and AFPIMS training). A DOD/Military Common Access Card (CAC) is required to view the client's respective training sections (DOD, Marine, or Army Corps).

Military service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard) clients should contact their respective service representative for either a new domain, new social media blog presence or the transfer of an existing website. If your service branch is hosted with DOD Public Web, the service representative will need to approve and forward your request to the Public Web helpdesk for completion.
