The purpose of this memo is to announce the availability of Microsoft BitLocker as a Department of the Navy approved enterprise data at rest solution for the encryption of controlled unclassified information on Microsoft-based systems.
Subj: DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY DATA AT REST (DAR) SOLUTION FOR ENCRYPTION OF CONTROLLED UNCLASSIFIED INFORMATION (CUI)
The purpose of this memorandum is to announce the availability of Microsoft BitLocker as a Department of the Navy (DON) approved enterprise data at rest (DAR) solution for the encryption of controlled unclassified information (CUI) on Microsoft-based systems. BitLocker is a National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) approved solution, available with no additional license cost under the existing DON Microsoft Enterprise License Agreement.
Exceptions to DON enterprise DAR solutions will continue to be processed based on previous service-specific guidance.
