Online Courses

DVBIC offers interactive Web-based courses for military and civilian health care providers to examine traumatic brain injury (TBI) topics including definition, pathophysiology, assessment and treatment. Continuing education credit is currently unavailable for these courses.

Military

This course comprehensively explores TBI in five parts: TBI definition and the impact on the military; pathophysiology including primary versus secondary injuries, levels of severity and screening for concussion; examination and evaluation including symptoms and neuroimaging techniques; treatment in the acute phase and non-deployed setting, long term complications and recovery/reintegration; and outcomes and research. There are also several resources at the end of the module that will benefit military providers in their practice.

Civilian

DVBIC, in partnership with WETA-TV-FM, created two online courses for civilian health care providers who care for service members and veterans who have sustained a TBI. Both courses take approximately two hours to complete. The courses include commentary from providers and patients, real world examples, and case studies.

This course provides an overview of what symptoms patients with mild TBI may experience and tips related to care and treatment. Included are two patient interviews that show how to conduct a TBI screening to help with diagnosis. Select the link below to get started:
