Phoenix Hosts First Navy Week of 2016 — The 2016 Navy Week season kicks off with Phoenix Navy Week at the Arizona Science Center March 21 and will run through March 26. Navy Weeks focus a variety of assets, equipment and personnel on a single city for a weeklong series of engagements designed to bring America's Navy closer to the people it protects, in cities that don't have a large naval presence.

Navy Advancement Center Adds Exam Bibliographies to Navy COOL Website — Sailors preparing for advancement examinations can now access their bibliographies (BIBs) without the need for a Common Access Card (CAC), as the Navy Advancement Center added the active duty and Reserve BIBs to the Navy Credentialing Opportunities Online (COOL) website March 14. While it will still be possible to link to the BIBs through the Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) website, which requires a CAC, adding a BIB portal on Navy COOL allows access through any internet-capable computer or mobile device.
SECNAV Advisory Panel Fosters a Culture of Innovation —The Secretary of the Navy Advisory Panel held a public meeting to address its research about the ways to establish a culture of innovation in the Department of the Navy, March 17. SNAP's mission is to provide expert advice on a variety of issues that range from service members' health to nuclear weapons.
Thirteenth MCPON Announces Retirement — The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens sent an email to his Leadership Mess March 16 announcing his decision to retire in September.
Navy's Fleet Experimentation Program Looks Ahead to FY17 — Navy Warfare Development Command (NWDC) hosted Fleet-wide planning engagement March 15-16 to start formulating a fiscal year 2017 Fleet Experimentation (FLEX) execution plan. Representatives from each numbered fleet, warfighting development center and other stakeholders, including members of the acquisition and Navy science and technology communities, were invited to the FLEX program's annual Execution Plan Development Workshop to share upcoming experimentation priorities and plans.
Navy Submarines Arrive in Arctic for ICEX 2016 — Two Los Angeles-class submarines arrived at U.S. Navy Ice Camp Sargo, a temporary station on top of a floating ice sheet in the Arctic, March 14, as part of Ice Exercise (ICEX) 2016. USS Hartford (SSN 768) from Groton, Connecticut, and USS Hampton (SSN 767) from San Diego will conduct multiple arctic transits, a North Pole surfacing, scientific data collection and other training evolutions during their time in the region.
New Designator Name Honors Heritage and Looks to Future — Those information warfare community naval officers principally responsible for executing signals intelligence, cyberspace operations and electronic warfare operations will be renamed cryptologic warfare officers to reflect their evolving mission. Vice Adm. Jan E. Tighe, commander of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command and U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC and C10F), who also serves as the Navy's cryptologic community leader, announced March 14 the change applies to officers with the 181X, 681X and 781X designators, formerly known as information warfare officers.
GHWB Wins CNO Afloat Safety Award — USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) was awarded the Chief of Naval Operations Afloat Safety Award for Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic, March 9. The CNO Safety Award Afloat encompasses the ship's safety programs, statistics, proactive approaches the ship is taking, and what makes the ship unique compared to other commands' safety programs.
