The 200,000th Trap Aboard TR — Capt. Daniel C. Grieco, commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), and Capt. Benjamin Hewlett, deputy commander of Carrier Air Wing 1 (DCAG), successfully recorded the 200,000th arrested landing aboard TR, Jan. 15.

Partnerships Born from Operation Desert Storm Remain Vital to Middle East Security — VADM John Miller, commander of the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, U.S. Fifth Fleet, Combined Maritime Forces, discusses the importance of continued partnership as our Navy operates forward in the Middle East.

DON IT Conference Schedule Announced — The DON IT Conference has been approved and will be held Feb. 10-12, 2015, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. No conference fee will be assessed, but registration is required.

CNO Engaging Chile, Peru and Colombia Navies — At the invitation of several South American heads of navies Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert is engaging with the Chilean, Peruvian and Colombian Navies this week, Jan 11-17, in each of their respective countries.

SECDEF Visits America — Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel arrived aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) by MV-22 Osprey Jan. 14. During his time aboard, Hagel held an all-hands call where he thanked the crew for their hard work and dedication, spoke about the ship's accomplishments during its recent sail around South America, and the importance of people, capacity and partnerships.

USS Sampson and USS Fort Worth Detach From AirAsia Search — After contributing more than 650 search hours to the Indonesian-led search effort for AirAsia flight QZ8501, USS Sampson (DDG 102) and USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) concluded their assistance efforts Jan 15, receiving praise from Indonesian authorities.

Naval History and Heritage Command’s New Website Goes Live — NHHC’s new website launched this week, featuring more than 24,000 pages of ship histories, photos, personal papers, works of combat art, and digitized books.

Surface Combat Systems Center Wallops Island — All Hands Magazine visits a quiet spot on the Eastern Shore of Virginia to delve into the inner workings of SCSC Wallops, the go-to site for operational engineering, testing and training in a maritime and littoral environment.

From Research to Railgun: Revolutionary Weapon at Future Force EXPO — The Electromagnetic Railgun — a weapon that will play a significant role in the future of the U.S. Navy — will be on display to the public for the first time on the East Coast Feb. 4-5 at the Naval Future Force Science and Technology (S&T) EXPO in Washington, D.C., officials at the Office of Naval Research (ONR) announced Jan. 13. With Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert set as the event's keynote speaker on Feb. 4, the EXPO promises to be a window into the future of the U.S. Navy, showcasing the latest advances in power projection and force protection.

SAN DIEGO (July 8, 2014) One of the two electromagnetic railgun prototypes on display aboard the joint high speed vessel USS Millinocket (JHSV 3) in port at Naval Base San Diego. The railguns are being displayed in San Diego as part of the Electromagnetic Launch Symposium, which brought together representatives from the U.S. and allied navies, industry and academia to discuss directed energy technologies.
