Constituted as a transportation brigade on Nov. 24, 1967, in the United States Army Reserve and activated in Orlando, FL. The 143d ESC became a transportation command on Oct. 1, 1985, and was the Army Reserve’s only echelon above corps transportation command and control unit.

From December 2001 through December 2006, the unit kept a presence in Kuwait as the 143d TRANSCOM (Forward) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Responsible for the ports of debarkation and embarkation and theater common user land transportation, the unit performed admirably for five years while deployed.

In December 2006, the 143d ESC handed over its mission in Kuwait to other logistics units so as to focus on transformation and the command and control of several additional brigades.

On Sept. 16, 2007, the unit was officially activated as the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) (ESC).

In January 2009, the unit mobilized for the first time as an ESC and deployed to Afghanistan one month later. The 143d ESC operated as the Joint Sustainment Command Afghanistan (JSC-A) from February 2009 thru December 2009.
