United States Army Reserve Strategic Command Troop Program Unit (STRATCOM TPU) honored its outgoing commander, Maj. Adam Stanley, and welcomed Maj. Russell Porter in the change of command ceremony Sept. 10 at Peterson Air Force Base auditorium.

United States Army Reserve Strategic Command Troop Program Unit (STRATCOM TPU) honored its outgoing commander, Maj. Adam Stanley, and welcomed Maj. Russell Porter in the change of command ceremony Sept. 10 at Peterson Air Force Base auditorium. In his speech, Stanley remarked on the endless productivity that his Soldiers have provided to the unit, to the Army Reserve. “You’re more than just an active duty Soldier. You’re a dad; you’re a mom, husband, and wife. I appreciate the sacrifice because I know that it does takes sacrifice to be here today and everything.”

Russell Porter in the change of command ceremony Sept. 10 at Peterson Air Force Base auditorium. “Adam, your watch is done and you can move on to the 11th Theater Aviation Command’s new brigade that has stood up there. Russ, welcome aboard, the books will get deeper. Welcome to the watch,” said 76th Division Operational Response Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Ricky Waddell, the reviewing officer at the ceremony.

“So today, we as a Nation re-affirm our commitment and we rededicate ourselves to this important task. We will not call our mission complete until all of our fallen return home to those who keep vigil for their loved ones, to those who are still waiting, to those who have never given up hope,” said 76th Division Operational Response, Chief of Staff, Col. Doug Cherry, during a flagging ceremony for POW/MIA Day held at Salt Lake City, Utah, September 16.

The POW/MIA Day is a day to recognize military members who never made it home safely. Two of the fallen military members were Pfc. Thomas Montoya and Sgt. William Andrews, both enlisted in Salt Lake City. The Soldiers of the 76th Division Operational Response based out of Fort Douglas raised the black and white POW/MIA flag to honor these fallen comrades.

During a flagging ceremony for POW/MIA Day held at Salt Lake City, Utah, September 16, 76th Division Operational Response Chief of Staff, Col. Doug Cherry, shook hands with surviving relative of Sgt. William Andrews, whose airplane crashed during a bombing run and was later captured and executed by the Japanese during World War II, along with several of his crews on board. His remains have never been returned.

The Soldiers of the 76th Division Operational Response based out of Fort Douglas, Utah, participated in the National POW/MIA Day flag raising ceremony at the Salt Lake City and County building, September 16. In this photo, Carlos Jimenez, a nephew of Pfc. Thomas Montoya, stated that he has been educating people the importance of recognizing fallen military members and most importantly, the death of Montoya, who went missing in 1952 during the Korean War.

“I’m deeply honored to take part in this solemn recognition of our missing military personnel who have yet to return home,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, during a flagging ceremony for POW/MIA Day held at Salt Lake City, Utah, September 16. “I hope this acknowledgement, small as it is, helps show that Salt Lake City fully respects and supports these brave servicemen and their families for their incredible sacrifices.”

In a retirement ceremony held Sunday at Fort Douglas, Utah, Maj. Gen. Ricky Waddell, Commanding General of the 76th Operational Response Command, recognized Master Sgt. Stephen Peters for his more than 40 years of service to the U.S. Army and the nation.

Maj. Gen.
