Baby Friendly Programs

Baby Friendly

“Milky Way” rooms are available for breastfeeding and breastpumping. Locations at the main hospital: Pediatrics Room #1830 (hallway on right, first room on left) and 5th Floor Room #5038B (at end of hallway).

In Oct. 2011, Naval Hospital Jacksonville was designated by the World Health Organization and United Nations Children's Fund as one of only 119 baby friendly U.S. medical facilities. As an officially designated Baby Friendly facility we successfully implemented the recommended ten steps of a comprehensive breastfeeding program according to Baby-Friendly® USA.

As a breastfeeding-friendly hospital, we seek to set up new moms for success with support, education and coaching. We provide lactation education and support groups to moms who choose to breastfeed, and formula and education to moms who choose to formula-feed.

We welcome two to three babies to the world each and every day. We feature private, family friendly suites as well as couplet care for mom and baby.

Birth Certificates & DEERS Update

For information, call Admissions at (904) 542-7811.
Florida birth certificates must be filed within five days of birth. Admissions provides the paperwork, which must be completed in 48 hours. Before leaving the hospital, parents must verify the accuracy, request a “true certified copy” and sign the birth certificate application.

Admissions will electronically file with the Bureau of Vital Statistics
Duval County Health Department
900 University Boulevard North
Jacksonville, Fla. 32211

To update your personnel record and enroll your child in DEERS at Personnel Support Detachment, you must obtain an original, certified certificate of live birth from the Health Department. It is critical to register your newborn in DEERS immediately in order to establish TRICARE eligibility for essential early health care. Children not registered in DEERS within 365 days after birth or adoption will lose all TRICARE eligibility.

For more information contact DEERS at (800) 533-9552.
