  • Monday, August 31, 2009 - Training Provides Support for Chaplains and Other Care-Providers

      Every year the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps holds training for its chaplains and religious program specialists (RPs), who support chaplains.  The training aims to equip chaplains and RPs with knowledge and skills to assist leadership in identifying and assisting Sailors, Marines and Coast Guard personnel affected by combat and operational stress.  The Navy Chaplain Corps encourages all chaplains and RPs to attend this course.    The recent 2009 Professional Development and Training Course (PDTC), "Combat Operational Stress Control for Caregivers: The Family Dynamic," built on the foundation provided during the 2008 PDTC, “Combat Operational Stress Control for the Caregiver.”  This year’s PDTC targeted other care-providing communities in the Navy and Marine Corps that support Sailors and Marines, such as Marine Corps Community Service mental health counselors, Navy medical corps officers and corpsmen, Marine Corps family readiness officers, Navy ombudsmen, and other care-providers in programs designed ...

  • Monday, August 24, 2009 - Brig. Gen. Loree K. Sutton is Participating in Military Pathways’™ Webcast: Psychological Health and Stigma

    DCoE Director Brig. Gen. Loree K. Sutton will be presenting “Psychological Health and Stigma: DoD’s initiatives to help service members and their families,” during Military Pathways’™Thursday, August 27 Webcast at 1300.

    During the presentation, Sutton will discuss ways to maintain psychological health and the DoD’s initiatives to fight stigma associated with seeking assistance for psychological health concerns. She will highlight the new Real Warriors Campaign, a public education initiative to combat stigma, and discuss the importance of resilience in maintaining psychological health.

This interactive Web site, similar to the social networking site Facebook, will allow Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and their Families to stay connected in a safe and nurturing environment surrounded by their favorite Sesame Street friends. Whether the distance between military members and their loved ones is due to deployment or the recovery from an injury sustained while deployed, the “Family Connections” Web site offers young children an online environment to stay connected, while offering tools for ...
