Norfolk Naval Shipyard has competent on site experts in numerous technical disciplines capable of resolving the many complex issues which confront job planning and execution. In this respect several innovative technologies and programs have been initiated here to assist in work accomplishment.

Occupational Safety and Health Division

Mission Statement: Ensure safe and healthful conditions are established and maintained in the workplace through an effective Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Program Management System. Provide interpretive guidance to ensure that our customers and all members of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) workforce understand and comply with NAVY and Federal OSH requirements.

Key Products, Processes and Services: The key products, processes and services for the OSH division are as follows: OSH Program Management; Technical Document Review; OSH Surveillance and Inspections; Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting; Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Support; OSH Project Management Support; and OSH Training.

Environment Division

Mission Statement: Sustain environmental compliance through an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) to support the Shipyard’s mission of ship repair/maintenance within budget, with first time quality, and customer satisfaction.

Key Products, Processes and Services: Regulatory compliance with federal and state permits for air, water, and hazardous waste; Environmental Engineering Branch to support waterfront operations and technical document review; Pollution prevention through recycling, waste minimization, material/process substation; Facility-wide environmental surveillance and inspection program; Oversight of the Shipyard’s Consolidated Hazardous Material Reutilization and Inventory Management Program (CHRIMP); Shipyard liaison for installation restoration projects and outside Environmental Regulatory Agencies.
