Naval Air Traffic Management Systems Program Office (PMA-213) is the Naval Aviation Enterprise’s Program Office for all Navy and Marine Corps Air Traffic Management Systems.

Mission

Air Traffic Control Systems

The AN/TSQ-120C is a transportable air traffic control tower facility that provides operators with a 360 degree visual observance of aircraft and vehicles operating on an expeditionary airfield and in the vicinity of the active runway.  The tower provides the communications needed by Air Traffic Controllers to guide aircraft and coordinate with adjacent air traffic control facilities.  This tower entered service with the Marine Corps in 1993.

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) Systems IPT is responsible for acquisition and life cycle support for systems that provide ATC capability for Navy and Marine Corps Air Stations, aboard CV and LH class ships, at Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facilities (FACSFAC), and for Marine Corps Expeditionary Air Traffic Control Detachments.

Combat Identification

The AN/APX-123 transponder  supports Mode 5 and provides Legacy SIF, Mode 4, and Mode S functionality operation.  The AN/APX-118 is upgradeable via an OEM-installed ECP kit to create an AN/APX-123.

The Combat Identification (CID) IPT provides acquisition and life cycle management for systems that provide Cooperative and Non Cooperative Target ID capability for the warfighter.  Combat Identification is integral to all Combat Mission Areas.  Systems include:

  • ACAT II Mark XIIA Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF)
  • Digital Interrogator
  • Common Digital Transponder
  • Shipboard Interrogator System and Processor
  • Countermeasures Set

Landing Systems

The AN/SPN-35C provides fleet air traffic controllers an all-weather precision approach radar system, for safe landing of aircraft onboard amphibious assault ships.

The Landing Systems (LS) IPT is responsible for acquisition and life cycle support for systems that provide aircraft landing capability both at sea and on land.

The Landing Systems IPT consists of the ACAT ID Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) program, Automatic Carrier Landing System (AN/SPN-46(V)3), Instrument Carrier Landing System (AN/SPN-41/41A), the Precision Approach Radar (AN/SPN-35B/C) and TACAN.

Joint Precision Approach & Landing Systems

Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) - An ACAT ID program with Increment 1A Ship-based system currently in EMD phase at Raytheon Fullerton. JPALS is a GPS-based system comprised of ship systems, aircraft systems, and JPALS-specific data link using existing GPS satellites, supporting Joint Service, civil, and multi-national interoperability. JPALS Increment 1A Ship-based system is scheduled for Milestone C in December 2013.

Joint Precision Approach and Landing Systems (JPALS) is an all-weather landing system based on differential GPS for land-based and sea-based aircraft.
