MHS GENESIS
Q1:

What is MHS GENESIS?

A:

MHS GENESIS is a state-of-the-market electronic health record (EHR) system acquired by the Department of Defense (DoD). MHS GENESIS provides an integrated medical and dental record that connects patient information across Garrison and Theatre environments. Cerner Corporation and Henry Schein, Inc., respectively, provide the medical and dental technical solutions of MHS GENESIS. It will replace several legacy systems, including, but not limited to: Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Composite Health Care System (CHCS), and inpatient and clinical components of Theater Medical Information Program-Joint (TMIP-J).

Q2:

How will MHS GENESIS be rolled out?

A:

MHS GENESIS will deploy enterprise-wide to all medical and dental fixed facilities worldwide. Deployment segments are built on a "wave" model. The Initial Operational Capability (IOC) sites in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) are the first wave to receive MHS GENESIS.

The Joint Operational Medical Information System (JOMIS) Program Management Office (PMO) is responsible for the Operational Medicine deployment of MHS GENESIS. The deployment schedule is under development.

Q3:

What does IOC stand for?

A:

IOC stands for Initial Operational Capability. This term is used to describe the first sites that will receive MHS GENESIS.

Q4:

What are the IOC sites?

A:

The IOC sites are listed below. Their support facilities and clinics are included in the IOC sites.

  • Madigan Army Medical Center
  • Naval Hospital Bremerton
  • Naval Hospital Oak Harbor
  • Fairchild Air Force Base (92nd Medical and Dental)
