"DESERT MEDICS"

The 3rd Medical Command is a senior deployable medical command and control headquarters, providing support to U.S. Army Africa and U.S. Army Central area of operations.


The 3rd MEDCOM provides support and technical supervision for more than 6,000 Soldiers located in 21 states and Puerto Rico to prepare and provide trained and ready Soldiers and units toU.S. Army Reserve Command for mobilization.

Designated by the Chief of Military History as the “Desert Medics”, 3rd MEDCOM directly supports Army Central Command across the full spectrum of operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, delivering state-of-the-art combat healthcare to U.S. service members and other personnel in accordance with the Medical Rules of Engagement.

Originally an active Army command with a history reaching back to World War II, the 3rd MEDCOM was allotted into the Army Reserve in June 1997 and was activated at Decatur, Georgia.

August 5, 2016 - When Capt. Joseph Skelly joined the Army Reserve in 2001, little did he know that nearly 15 years later he and 27 other junior U.S. Army officers would be joining the stage with Gen. Mark Milley, the Chief of Staff of the Army.
July 28, 2016 - Most of the crowd stood up to get a better view of the formation of Soldiers that marched up while singing loudly, repeating the cadence of the 1st sergeant. The crowd had been waiting anxiously under the hot New Hampshire sun. The crowd consisted of a U.S. Army general, congressional staff members, a U.S. Representative, a U.S. Senator, and even bagpipers. But most importantly the crowd was made up of the family members and friends of the Soldiers marching along.
July 27, 2016 - Service members from the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, active Navy, and Air National Guard came from across the nation, as far away as Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Texas to participate in a joint services mission in Norwich, N.Y., to provide world-class care to the people of Chenango County.

July 25, 2016 - A row of 12 Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, and Air National Guard service members kneel by tent flaps laying flat on the ground. In pairs, they work together like a well-oiled machine, with one person kneeling and the other person squatting, ready for the command to insert a pin into the tent hole and assemble a hospital tent.
