Ammunition Management (CP-33)

General

Competitive Professional Development (CPD) opportunities within the Ammunition Management Career Program (AMCP) are designed to provide progressive competency growth for CP-33 careerists. These opportunities are designed to develop a cadre of high-potential GS-9s (non-interns whose positions have been documented as journey-level) through GS-15 careerists with the prerequisite skills for leadership positions in the career program, and to challenge existing leaders to reach new levels of professional achievement.

Commands will not be reimbursed for salaries and personal benefits for training participants or costs incurred through temporary backfill of vacated position.

Developmental Assignments

This training consists of career broadening assignments at higher level organizations with an ammunition mission. Selectees shadow senior Ammunition Managers in areas outside the scope of the normal duties to gain a broad perspective of the various facets of ammunition management. Development assignments are typically 30 days in length.

Grassroots Program

The "Grassroots" program is designed to provide hands-on ammunition experience to careerists who have minimal or no hands-on ammunition experience and need a better understanding of ammunition operations at the wholesale/retail level. Grassroots assignments are 30 days in length.

University Training

Professional development also includes undergraduate and graduate education at various colleges and universities. The objective of continued education is to provide a valuable learning experience to stimulate innovation at the workplace and improve the foundation for future advancement.

Career Enhancement Opportunity (CEO)

The Mentoring Program is a 12 month training program for mentor/associate pairs. The training consists of three phases scheduled throughout the year at various locations in which participants receive training in mentoring, team building, and leadership to assist both the mentor and the associate. During the program year, the mentor and associate also meet periodically to pursue career enhancement ideas and establish a business association.

Competitive Selection Procedures

Annual and periodic surveys are conducted to identify CPD program requirements. The supervisor and MACOM CPM or ACPM approve the request for professional development. Requests for training are sent to the Ammunition Management Career Program Office (AMCPO) to approve and process the requests. ACTEDS funds are always subject to availability as set forth by HQDA, G-3/5/7.

Grade Level

GS-09 (non-interns whose position has been documented as journey-level) through GS-15 may apply for CPD opportunities. Army Civilians must have completed three years in a Army Civilian permanent position at time of application to be eligible.

Point of Contact

The AMCP CPD program is centrally managed from the AMCP Office in McAlester, OK.

Civilian Education System (CES)

The Civilian Education System (CES) is the foundation of the Army's leader development program for all Army Civilians, providing progressive and sequential education courses throughout their careers. CES is centrally funded by HQDA G-37/Training Directorate for most permanent Army Civilians, including but not limited to general schedule (GS), non-appropriated fund (NAF), local national (LN) and wage grade (WG) employees. CES leadership courses, or designated equivalent courses, are required for all Army Civilians. Employees should include attendance at the CES course for which they are eligible in their Individual Development Plans (IDP).

Employees are eligible to attend the CES course that is targeted at their grade level. GS-01 through GS-09 employees are eligible to attend the CES Basic Course; GS-10 through GS-12 employees are eligible to attend the CES Intermediate Course; and GS-13 through GS-15 employees are eligible to attend the CES Advanced Course. NOTE: All Army Civilians who were hired after 30 September 2006 are required to take the Foundation Course prior to enrolling in either of the CES courses.

More information on CES courses, as well as instructions on how to enroll can be found on the Civilian Training and Leader Development website at http://www.civiliantraining.army.mil/Pages/Homepage.aspx
