Together, the 900,000 Sailors, Marines and Civilians in the Department of the Navy form the world’s most formidable expeditionary fighting force, responsible for maintaining the maritime defense of the United States and missions ranging from major combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, to maritime security operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The Navy and Marine Corps are deeply committed to changing the way energy is used and produced, preserving the environment, and planning for and mitigating the harmful effects of climate change. This website provides information about the Navy and Marine Corps’ energy, environmental, and climate change programs.
