DoD Small Business Initiatives

Though not part of the portfolio of programs that the DoD's Office of Small Business Programs provides policy direction for, these small business initiatives also deserve a close look by small business owners and business developers.

Women-Owned Small Business

The Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) initiative highlights the efforts by the Department of Defense to achieve the 5 percent goal for prime and subcontract awards to small business concerns owned and controlled by women.

Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business

The Defense Department is committed to making the maximum practicable prime and subcontracting opportunities available to small businesses that are owned and controlled by veterans and service-disabled veterans. To achieve this objective, the DoD has undertaken an aggressive outreach effort to identify these firms.

Comprehensive Subcontracting Plan Test

The DoD Comprehensive Subcontracting Plan Test Program authorizes the negotiation, administration, and reporting of subcontracting plans on a plant, division, or company-wide basis as appropriate. The goal is to determine whether comprehensive subcontracting plans will result in increased subcontracting opportunities for Small Business while reducing the administrative burdens on contractors.

HUBZones

The Small Business Administration HUBZone Program mission is to promote job growth, capital investment and economic development to historically underutilized business zones, referred to as HUBZones, by providing contracting assistance to small businesses located in these economically distressed communities.

Business USA

Business.USA.gov is the U.S. government's official web portal to support business start-ups, growth, financing and exporting. It is designed to provide access to online resources and services of Federal, state, and local Government as well as those of non-profit and educational organizations supporting businesses.
