EXECUTIVE DEPUTY DIRECTOR

Anthony (Tony) Montemarano, as the Executive Deputy Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency, assists the Director as necessary and focuses on optimizing the internal operations of the agency. 

He is a retired naval aviator with twenty-one years of service during which he had multiple deployments, instructor tours and overseas assignments.  During the last six years of his naval career, he participated in major acquisitions for both command and control and global communications.  Upon retirement from the Navy in 1992, he joined the federal service and was assigned duties within the DISN Program Management Office. He has since played a major role in the evolution of every telecommunications service that DISA offers.  Of note, between 2003 and 2005, he served as the Program Director for the Global Information Grid Bandwidth Expansion, where he successfully led the acquisition, engineering, implementation, and overall program management of the single largest expansion in the Department of Defense global communications infrastructure.  From 2006 through 2007, he was the Program Executive Officer for Information Assurance and NetOps Programs providing security enhancements to DISA’s service offerings.  From 2008 through 2011 he was the agency Component Acquisition Executive providing acquisition oversight for all of DISA’s enterprise services, communications services, security services and various command and control initiatives.  From 2011 through 2014, he served as the Director, Strategic Planning and Information where he over saw development of the agency’s vision, planning and policy.  Finally, on the eleventh of January 2015, he was assigned to his present position.

Mr. Montemarano has attended the Armed Forces Staff College and the National War College. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Masters of Science degree in Systems Management.
