CAPABILITIES

Authorized GCSS-J users must have a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) hard token to have access to SIPRNet GCSS-J, and a Common Access Card (CAC) to have access to NIPRNet GCSS-J.  PKI or CAC is needed before a user can request a GCSS-J Account.

Logistics Common Operating Picture (LOGCOP)

The GCSS-J LogCOP application is a portal interface that allows users to create and to manage Dashboards. Each Dashboard acts like a Windows desktop environment for managing single-purpose application panels known as “widgets.” Dashboards are fully customizable, persisted between sessions, and sharable. They support personalization by allowing users to add, to remove, and to arrange widgets to best suit their needs. The portal framework capability is provided by the government open-source project, the Ozone Widget Framework (OWF).

GCSS-J offers a variety of widgets to support the user’s mission by Joint Capabilities Area (JCA).

Joint Capabilities Area (JCA) Environment

The GCSS-J JCA environment is a collection of similar DoD capabilities grouped functionally to support capability analysis, strategy development, investment decision making, capability portfolio management, and capabilities-based force development and operational planning. The JCAs in GCSS-J are as follows:

  • The 1.4 Health Readiness JCA provides a GCSS-J user the discovery of medical supplies and equipment. Users can also gain visibility to hospitals and other medical facilities located at DoD Installations worldwide.
  • The 4.1 Deployment & Distribution JCA provides a GCSS-J user with the ability to monitor force and supply movement.
  • The 4.2 Supply JCA provides a GCSS-J user with the ability to view Watchboards; perform logistical analysis; and (with the right permissions) create or modify supply points, operations, and JOAs/Regions used for Watchboard generation.
  • The 4.3 Maintain JCA provides a GCSS-J user the ability to expose users to maintenance and repair related supply information (e.g., tools, equipment, and material), which includes access to Condition Codes for equipment.
  • The 4.4 Logistics Services JCA provides a GCSS-J user the ability to run reports to locate supplies and equipment (from AV).
  • The 4.5 Operational Contract Support JCA provides a GCSS-J user the ability to access the Fuels Contract map layers and reports.
  • The 4.6 Engineering JCA provides GCSS-J users the ability to create engineering plans (SIPRNet only capability) by importing a JOPES OPlan or creating one from scratch.
  • The 4.7 Base & Installations Support JCA provides GCSS-J users with the ability to access information for enduring bases and installations including the assets, programs, and services necessary to support U.S. military forces.
  • The 5.3 Planning JCA provides the GCSS-J user (with valid JOPES credentials) access to several OPlan reports and the ability to visualize the TPFDDs. (SIPRNet only capability).

Each JCA has access to the mapping and reporting infrastructure of GCSS-J.  The mapping infrastructure in GCSS-J allows a user to view data from approved data sources on a map, customize visible layers, view selected report results on a map, and drill to retrieve details on map items.  The reporting infrastructure provides GCSS-J users with access to predefined reports that request and aggregate data from one or many authoritative defense logistics data sources. The reports allow GCSS-J users to customize requests for data, as well as the resulting report content and format. The reports and the customized report result formats can also be saved for future use. Users can export report results to MS Excel to create charts and graphs. Users can create map layers with reports results that contain geo-area parameters (lat/long). The GCSS-J mapping infrastructure will display report-based layers.
