Department of Defense

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE

The mission of the Department of Defense (DOD) is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country. The department's headquarters is at the Pentagon.

The mission of Defense.gov is to support the overall mission of the DOD by providing official, timely and accurate information about defense policies, organizations, functions and operations. Also, Defense.gov is the single, unified starting point for finding military information online.

This mission is consistent with the DOD Principles of Information, which outline the Department's policy for providing information to military members, DOD civilians, military family members, the American public, the Congress, and the news media. The information you find here is cleared for public release in accordance with applicable DOD policies.

Department of Labor

DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

The mission of the Department of Labor (DOL) is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.

The DOL’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs, Division of Federal Employees’ Compensation provides workers’ compensation coverage to 2.7 million federal and postal workers around the world for employment-related injuries and occupational diseases.

The DOL’s Federal-State Unemployment Insurance Program provides unemployment benefits to eligible workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own (as determined under State law), and meet other eligibility requirements of State law.

Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board

THRIFT SAVINGS PLAN

The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is a retirement savings and investment plan for Federal employees and members of the uniformed services. Employee contributions and accrued earnings are tax-deferred. The purpose of TSP is to provide annuitants with retirement income. TSP offers Federal civilian employees the same type of savings and tax benefits that many private corporations offer their employees under “401(K)” plans. Employees covered by Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) can contribute to TSP.
