Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, The Hon. Katherine Hammack; and Project Manager Jimmy Harding of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District's Military Branch, accept the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Office of Federal Sustainability 2016 GreenGov Award for the Building the Future Category. The award ceremony took place September 7th at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C. The award went to the Project Delivery Team for the 4th Infantry Division’s Aviation Support Battalion’s new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certified helicopter maintenance hangar located in Fort Carson, Colorado.

The Omaha District River Basin Balancer Game offers insight into an inland waterway and a system of reservoirs, which are operated with a goal for serving each of the benefits of flood control, navigation, hydropower, irrigation, water supply, recreation, fish and wildlife, and water quality, for which the Mainstem reservoirs were authorized and constructed. Users can take charge of river operations and experience the unique challenges presented when managing reservoir operations in a variety of weather conditions across a geographically diverse basin.

Community invited to Town Hall meeting regarding Missile Site 3

Town Hall meeting to be held October 25 for all community members within the local area of the Atlas "D" missile site 3 to discuss efforts by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers made relating to the ongoing environmental studies and restoration activities at the former Atlas "D" Missile Site 3.

Reservoir levels at 3 Lincoln, NE area reservoirs to be lowered

Reservoir levels at three Lincoln area dams will begin temporarily decreasing tomorrow, October 13. Releases from three Salt Creek dams, Wagontrain - Salt Creek 8, Stagecoach - Salt Creek 9, and Pawnee - Salt Creek 14 will begin Thursday morning and continue through October 19 or, depending upon the weather, until target pool elevations are reached.

Contract awarded for project in Nemaha County, Neb.

Western Contracting Corporation of Sioux City, Iowa, has been awarded a $1,868,600 construction contract for work in Nemaha County, Nebraska. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District awarded the contract for the Langdon Bend top width widening project.

100-year-old National Park Service's roots go deeper with U.S. Army

This year, the National Park Service celebrates its 100th anniversary. Yellowstone National Park, the world’s first national park established in 1872 by President Ulysses Grant, has close ties to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The connection between the National Park Service and USACE is one that has continued through the years.

What's with the hat?

Sharing roots with the U.S. Army, the park ranger uniform, be it National Park Service, Forest Service or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, got its start with the First Cavalry’s arrival at Yellowstone in 1886. From 1886-1916, cavalry troops were assigned at several national parks. Each service uniform has insignia making it distinguishable from one another. Hat bands and badges are different for each service.

White House Recognizes Omaha District, Fort Carson with “Building the Future” Award

The White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Office of Federal Sustainability hosted the 2016 GreenGov Presidential Awards, recognizing 12 agencies, individuals or facilities from across the U.S. Government. The award ceremony took place September 7th at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C. The “Building the Future” award went to Project Delivery Team for the 4th Infantry Division’s Aviation Support Battalion’s new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certified helicopter maintenance hangar located in Fort Carson, Colorado.
