Major flooding threatens Mississippi River Valley, Army Corps flood fighters fully engaged

VICKSBURG, Miss., December 29, 2015 – The Mississippi Valley Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, fully activated its flood fighting emergency management operations for the Rock Island, St. Louis, Memphis, Vicksburg and New Orleans districts to manage rapidly rising water levels on the Mississippi River and several tributaries, with the highest Mississippi River levels since the Great Flood of 2011. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Releases Work Plan for Fiscal Year 2015 Civil Works Appropriations

Washington (February 3, 2015) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) yesterday delivered to Congress its Fiscal Year 2015 (FY15) work plans for the Army Civil Works program. On December 16, 2014, President Obama signed into law the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, 2014, Division D of Public Law 113-235, the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, providing $5.483 billion in FY15 appropriations for the Army Civil Works program, which is offset in part by a $28 million cancellation of unobligated carryover funding appropriated prior to fiscal year 2015. The Act’s accompanying Statement of Managers report designates $4.473 billion of that total for specified programs, projects and activities (PPA). The Corps is responsible for allocating the remaining $1.009 billion, designated as additional funding, to individual PPAs, consistent with the categories and criteria provided in the Statement of Managers. President's Fiscal 2016 Budget for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works released

Washington (February 2, 2015) - The President’s Budget for fiscal year 2016 (FY 2016) includes $4.732 billion in gross discretionary funding for the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). "The 2016 Civil Works budget for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reflects the Administration's priorities to support and improve the Nation's economy, protect the American people, and restore our environment," said the Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. "This Budget supports the core mission areas of coastal and inland navigation, reducing flood and storm risks, and restoring aquatic ecosystems. It also advances other priorities through targeted investments to make our communities more resilient to climate change and result in project-related benefits such as hydropower, recreation, water supply, and the clean-up of federally-contaminated lands.
