**NIPR and SIPR Enterprise Search (ES) will end Jan 31, 2017. Alternative enterprise service solutions are unavailable at this time. Currently, efforts are underway at DISA and DOD CIO to sustain the service.**
Enterprise Search (ES) is the Department of Defense (DOD) designated enterprise tool for worldwide content discovery. ES provides capabilities to enhance the visibility of information products between the providers and consumers of this information across the GIG on the Non-secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) and Secure Internet Protocol Network (SIPRNet). Enterprise Search provides the means for content providers to advertise their information products and for content consumers (the end users) in turn to discover them.
Content providers are generally an author, web site administrator, or software developer responsible for generating content and making it available to others on the GIG. To make their content discoverable by both anticipated and unanticipated users, while employing the required access controls for sensitive content, content providers can use one or more of the three Content Discovery capabilities: Centralized Search (a crawler with a centralized index), Enterprise Catalog, or Federated Search. Content consumers can then use a single, simple user interface to generate queries and receive conforming results (discover content) found in any of these three capabilities.
