Disaster Preparedness
The District 13 AOR is a unique and magnificent area of the country with the unrivaled beauty of majestic mountains, vast beaches,
rivers, and lakes. However, this region is susceptible to earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, floods, and large winter storms. As
members of the Coast Guard family, we must live Semper Paratus when away and at home, ready at a moment’s notice. After a major event
all members of the Coast Guard District 13 Family are required to be accounted for. Take the time to be informed at home and at work,
make a plan, build a disaster kit, and be prepared to report your family's status following a catastrophic event.
The following section provides links to invaluable resources that will help you and your family be prepared in the event of a disaster.

Inclement Weather Procedures
When dangerous weather conditions threaten commute safety, please follow these guidelines:
- Monitor the weather forecast and road/mass transit conditions closely using the internet and/or television/radio.
- Use good judgment and plan ahead! You may need to leave earlier than normal and/or drive slower than usual and don't forget to give
yourself time to scrape your windshield; don't be one of those people peeking out of a little hole in the snow and ice. A good plan
starts the night before. Rushing only increases your risk.
- Before you start your commute, call 800-982-8813 Ext 7015 to hear the official status of D13 offices. An updated message will normally
be posted by 0515.
- Evaluate your local conditions when making a commute decision even if the District Office is open. Conditions at your residence/area
may be much different than conditions in greater Seattle area. Gather the facts and use sound risk management to get to work and return
home safely. Telecommuting may be your best option.
- Notify your supervisor if you cannot get to work safely and/or on time.
