The Fort Benning Directorate of Emergency Services will be implementing the Trusted Traveler Program at the Access Control Points throughout the installation during the hours of 5:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily, effective Aug. 7.
The TTP allows all DoD identification cardholders (uniformed Service military and their spouses, DoD employees, and retired uniformed service members and their spouses) to vouch for occupants in their immediate vehicle, provided the Trusted Traveler vehicle operator possesses a valid DoD ID card.
This TTP is intended to:
The TTP is not authorized for military dependents (except for spouses), contractors, volunteers, or Family Care providers, in accordance with Army Regulations.
Trusted Travelers are entirely responsible for the actions of the occupants in their vehicle and for meeting all local security requirements for escorting as established by Army regulations and requirements of the Installation Commander.
At no point will the safety and security of Fort Benning be compromised by this change. The DES will continue to execute programs that monitor and take aggressive action against possible illegal activities. During unannounced 100% ID checks at the ACPs, visitors will be required to render their identification for proof of verification.
The Installation Commander may suspend the TTP based on the local threat or may revoke individual trusted traveler privileges.
Once this program is implemented it will eventually allow the Trusted Traveler operator of the vehicle to scan their own ID card with the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) system at designated ACPs, however during peak traffic the guards may check and scan the IDs. We anticipate introducing the AIE scanning of IDs at two lanes at the ACP on I-185/Lindsey Creek on Aug. 14. If you are a Trusted Traveler, please watch the overhead display boards at the ACPs for Trusted Traveler lanes. As everyone becomes familiar with the system, lanes at additional ACPs will be set up to use the AIE system.
A key factor of any program is active community involvement. Everyone is encouraged to participate and call the Fort Benning Military Police Desk immediately at 706-545-5222 | 706-545-5223 | 706-545-5224 if they observe suspicious activity.
