Best Practices for use with Command Shared Drives and Web Portals
The attachment below is the Program Executive Officer, Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS) Portal Procedures for Safeguarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and should be used as a best practice. The Department of the Navy has experienced numerous breaches across the enterprise in which PII was improperly posted to shared drives and web portals resulting in unauthorized disclosure.
This extensive guide is consistent with DON CIO policy guidance and walks through a process that if adopted, would greatly diminish the potential for unauthorized disclosure associated with these media. PEO EIS has given permission to share this document with the broader DON audience. This guide may be adopted for local command/unit use.
