ECBC possesses an unrivaled chemical biological research and development infrastructure with scientists, engineers, technicians and specialists located at three different sites in the United States: Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., Pine Bluff, Ark., and Rock Island, Ill.,
ECBC has a unique role in technology development that cannot be duplicated by private industry or research universities. It fosters research, development, testing, and application of technologies for protecting warfighters, first responders and the nation from chemical and biological warfare agents. ECBC is currently developing better ways to remotely detect these chemical and biological materials – before the warfighter or first responder ever enters the threat zone. ECBC is also developing a new generation of technologies to counter everything from homemade explosives to biological aerosols to traditional and non-traditional chemical hazards.
Scientist-in-the-Classroom Activities
Pre-K through 5th grade
Activities can be facilitated by one of our scientists or engineers right in your classroom. ECBC provides all necessary supplies and tailors instructional materials to highlight Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards
Engineering is Elementary (EiE)
ECBC has also implemented the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) curriculum across Harford and Cecil Counties. Many of our existing activities can be tied to EiE storybooks, if requested.
Middle and High School
Beyond providing scientists and engineers as mentors for area Capstone, STEM Academy, and Project Lead the Way students, ECBC can also provide hands-on workshops to enhance the science curricula for grades 6-12. We are happy to support local “STEM Night” events, Summer Camps, Career Fairs, as well as in-class STEM experiences.
U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP)
The Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) provides a portfolio of Army educational opportunities in STEM for the future generations of America's workforce and teachers. The AEOP is composed of;
- Competitions (Junior Solar Sprint, eCybermission, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium)
- Internships
- Apprenticeships (SEAP, CQL)
- STEM Enrichment activities for students and educators
- DoD Scholarships & Awards (SMART)
From elementary school through graduate school, students of all proficiency levels, interests, social and economic backgrounds are encouraged to participate in real-world STEM experiences involving these important disciplines while also engaging with Army-sponsored mentors.
