Lynda Pierce, Performing the Duties of the Principal Deputy, Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer

Lynda PierceMs. Lynda Pierce was selected to perform the duties of the Principal Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Department of the Navy (DON) in November 2014. In this role she assists the Acting CIO in carrying out his responsibilities and provides guidance to the DON CIO's functional teams: DON Cybersecurity and Infrastructure, DON Information Technology (IT) Efficiencies and Analysis, and DON Information and Cyberspace Workforce Management.

She served as DON CIO Chief of Staff and Director of Enterprise IT Policy and Communications since March 2011. In this role, she was responsible for all staffing matters within the DON CIO, oversight of IT policy and guidance, and leading the Enterprise IT Communications Team in execution of DON-wide communication initiatives.

For ten years prior to joining the Civil Service, Ms. Pierce provided communications support to the DON CIO in the area of policy, guidance, and strategic documents; and provided key input to the DON CIO campaign plans and DON IM/IT strategic plans. Ms. Pierce was CHINFO's point of contact within DON CIO for media queries, and she planned and managed DON CIO's DON IT Conferences designed to share the latest IT policy, guidance, and initiatives with the DON IT community.

Before joining the DON CIO Ms. Pierce was employed by BancTec, a company that provides hardware and software for check processing systems used by Federal Reserve Banks. Prior to that, Ms. Pierce provided end user software training and documentation as a support contractor for government computer users. Ms. Pierce began her career at Westinghouse Nuclear Energy Division in Pittsburgh, PA.

Ms. Pierce is a native of Bayside, New York City, and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. She is a 2014 Fed 100 award recipient, and has received the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award. She also holds a Master's degree from Gonzaga University.
