  2. There's a great video called "Moving Forward After 9-11" featuring many Air National Guard members. It is in honor of all military and civilian first responders and dedicated to all whose lives were transformed on September 11, 2001. I think you'll be glad you watched!

  3. Today we remember those we lost 11 years ago in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. Thinking of them, I remember why we, The National Guard, our U.S. military exists - to stand vigilant and protect the citizens of our great nation. Please join me in thought and prayer for those we lost, for those affected by the events on that tragic day, and for those in our military around the globe who guard our freedom.
  4. Take some time today to reflect on the events of 9-11, of those lost and those left behind. Remember to include all who are serving in harm’s way to keep America safe. I encourage you to send a message to at least one person to let them know or leave one here.
  5. Yesterday, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the134th National Guard Association Conference. I'm shown here with Gen. Grass, Lt. Gen. Ingram and Maj. Gen. Vavala.
  6. Today, I'm looking forward to hearing from Gen Welsh, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, at the National Guard Association of the United States conference. To have a strong Air Force, you must have a strong Air National Guard!
  7. Please join me in congratulating Gen. Frank Grass as the 27th Chief of the National Guard Bureau! I want to also thank Gen. Craig McKinley for his 38 years of service to our country and his leadership.
  8. This year is the second-highest in MAFFS history for gallons of fire retardant dropped, surpassed only by 1994, when about 5 million gallons were dropped. So far this season, through Aug. 27, the MAFFS fleet had released more than 2,277,971 gallons of fire retardant during 950 drops on fires in 10 states.
  9. The Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing returned home after providing excellent support to the U.S. forest Service. They fought the fires in the western United States with specially modified C-130s called a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS).
  10. Hope you enjoyed time with loved ones this Labor Day weekend, but please keep those who may have lost everything in the wake of Hurricane Isaac in your thoughts and prayers. There are still over 6,000 National Guardsmen assisting those in need.
  11. Domestic Operations is a mission the National Guard does well. We are ready, prepared and accessible to save lives and protect America. Here is a photo of a Louisiana Air National Guard member making a difference! Keep up the good work.
  12. We have approx. 4,900 National Guard forces in four states (LA, MS, AL, FL) on State Active Duty prepared to respond to Hurricane Isaac. Always ready, always there!
