About Psychological Health

What is Psychological Health?

According to the Military Health System, “Mental health, or psychological health, encompasses the well-being of mind, body and spirit, and contributes to overall health and resilience.”

Concerns affecting the functioning, readiness and optimal health of our nation’s returning service members and their families (i.e., readjustment, depression, posttraumatic stress, anxiety, and substance misuse) have military leadership searching for answers to improve understanding, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

Improving Psychological Health Care

DCoE works to advance the field of psychological health care, in partnership with science and academia, and contributes evidence-based practices and resources to directly impact care for our service members and their families.

Deployment Health Clinical Center (DHCC), a DCoE center, focuses on key psychological health concerns for health care providers, service members and their families. DHCC seeks to enhance care quality, effectiveness and efficiencies; facilitate the translation of research to practice; and provide leadership, advocacy and implementation support.
