The 1st Mission Support Command provides mission command to assigned units of the Army Reserve in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to ensure unit readiness to deploy to war and successfully execute their wartime missions. Most of the Soldiers of the 1st MSC possess bilingual skills, which brings value to the Army and Joint Force.

Organized Reserve units have served in Puerto Rico since 1922 when the 373rd Infantry was moved to the Organized Reserve and headquartered in San Juan.

December 1973, the Support Group was placed directly under First U.S. Army. The following year, the 166th Support Group was given full mission control of all Army Reserve units in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and assumed the mission and functions of a major U.S. Army Reserve Command, under First U.S. Army.

From September 1990 through October 1991, more than 1,000Soldiers were activated and deployed in support of the Persian Gulf War.In 1999, the 1st MSC was made up of more than 5,000 Soldiers.Over the past generation, the command has overseen numerous successful deployments in support of various DoD operations, to include Joint Guard, Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

October 15, 2016 - Commemorations such as Hispanic Heritage Month are a great opportunity to pause and reflect on our shared history as Americans and to celebrate the rich mosaic of people and cultures who, together, built and strengthened our Army and our nation. This year, the 1st Mission Support Command celebrated “Embracing, Enriching and Enabling America” during a Hispanic Heritage event held at Ramos Hall on Fort Buchanan, October 15.
October 12, 2016 - “I want to be just like my father” is a phrase many young boys and men say at one point in their life. Sgt. 1st Class Edwin Velez, native of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, wanted nothing more than to feel like he was at the same level as his father; disciplined, smart, computer savvy and an all around outdoors guy.
October 6, 2016 - Some people are faced with challenges to reach whatever dream they seek. For Spec. Lisseth Ivonne Mayen Hernandez, this was no different. Born and raised in Guatemala until the age of fifteen she moved to California with her family. Four years ago, she moved to Puerto Rico with her husband with her dream of joining the military still tucked in the back of her mind.
October 3, 2016 - The 1st Mission Support Command (1st MSC) Civilian Awards Ceremony was held inside the Ramos Hall at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico on September 29.
September 29, 2016 - Approximately 45 U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers from the 246th Quartermaster Company (QM Co.) (Mortuary Affairs) headed to Fort Hood, Texas for their pre-mobilization training on September 28, from the Luis Muñoz Marin Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
