ARMY RESERVE RECORDS THE WAR

Truman realized the importance of recording the Korean War’s history and initiated a federal historical program to record how the federal government was responding to communist aggression. Eight military history detachments reached Korea between March and June 1951. The Army activated Army Reserve officers to command the detachments, one being twenty-three-year-old Bevin Alexander.

THE MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS 1908-1918

In 1902, Secretary of War Elihu Root proposed the creation of a volunteer reserve to augment the Regular Army and National Guard in wartime. This idea “to increase the efficiency of the Medical Department of the United States Army” was thought necessary to overcome serious shortages of physicians experienced during the Spanish American War of 1898.

COMBAT HISTORIAN TRAINING / EDUCATION

Military historians have existed since the time of ancient Greece. American efforts to gather and preserve battle details originated during World War II, and have flourished since 1945. This proud tradition of documenting Army operations is carried on by today's Combat Historians.

STAFF RIDE PROGRAM

Staff rides apply lessons from the past to present-day Army leadership for current application. Utilizing historic events, on the actual terrain where a battle occurred, the participant gets examples of tactics, strategy, communication, logistics, and the psychology of men and women in battle that can be applied in today’s military operations.
