HCE Collaborative Research Network

In order to achieve its mission, the Hearing Center of Excellence has established and maintains a collaborative research network composed of:

  • Strategically aligned research laboratories
  • Medical treatment facilities
  • Nonprofit and foundation counterparts
  • Industry and academic partners
  • International bodies, and
  • Other government Centers of Excellence

Known as the “Collaborative Auditory & Vestibular Research Network (CAVRN)”, the HCE brings together researchers with auditory research foci as a forum to discuss current research efforts across the DoD and VA enterprises, providing unique opportunities for collaboration.

The CAVRN aims to foster knowledge sharing and facilitate greater communication, coordination, awareness, and transparency between community members. The CAVRN promotes collaboration, translation, and best practices that influence auditory-vestibular readiness, care, and quality of life for warfighters and Veterans.

Meeting annually, the CAVRN brings members from the DoD and VA auditory and vestibular sciences community together in person to discuss mutual areas of research with the goal of familiarizing participants with resources, to include researcher expertise, facilities, and equipment across the enterprise. (see PPT slides for publically available photos of laboratories for photos to use on this page.

Together, this growing research network works to advance the community’s understanding, spur innovation, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and overcome system barriers that may otherwise challenge research.

For more information on the CAVRN or its working groups, please browse the sub-pages herein or contact the HCE.
