Retiring from the National Guard or Reserves

When you retire, your health and dental options will change. If you had TRICARE Reserve Select when you retired, that coverage will end.

Health Plan Options

You may qualify to purchase TRICARE Retired Reserve for you and your family. You can avoid a break in coverage if your application has a postmark less than 30 days after your TRICARE Reserve Select coverage ends.

• If you purchase TRICARE Retired Reserve, you’ll have the minimum essential coverage that you need with the Affordable Care Act.
• If not, you can search the Health Insurance Marketplace to find a civilian health plan that fits your needs and budget.

When You Turn 60 Years Old

When you turn age 60, you and your family may be eligible for the following health plans. Your choices will depend on where you live when you retire.

• TRICARE Prime
• US Family Health Plan
• TRICARE Standard and Extra
• TRICARE Young Adult (for qualified dependent adult children)
• TRICARE For Life (with Medicare Part A & B)
• TRICARE Standard Overseas

All of these plans provide minimum essential coverage.

Dental Options

When you retire (at any age) you and your family may enroll in the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program.

Prescriptions

You and your family qualify for prescription drug coverage when covered by TRICARE Retired Reserve (before age 60) or any other plan at age 60.
