Overview of the Ear

Transcript

Dr. Kent

The ear is a complex sensory organ that captures vibrations in the air pressure, commonly known as sound waves, and converts them into messages that the brain can understand. When our hearing system works properly, we’re able to identify a range of tones or frequencies as well as locate the origin of a sound in space. This ability helps us to know what’s going on in our environment and provides 360 degrees of situational awareness. Hearing is also important for effective communication.
