  • LTC James V. Crawford, MD

    Army Otology Representative

    LTC James Crawford is a member of the Executive Committee for the Hearing Center of Excellence.

    LTC Crawford attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University where he was selected for induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical school honor society. He completed residency at Madigan Army Medical Center and then went on to fellowship training in Neurotology at the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles, California. After fellowship, LTC Crawford returned to MAMC where he currently is the Program Director for the Otolaryngology residency. He is also an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University. LTC Crawford serves on the Otology/Neurotology Education Committee for the American Academy of Otolaryngology and represents the AAO-HNS on the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation. He is the Vice-Chair of CAOHC.

    He deployed to Afghanistan to establish in-theater capabilities for hearing testing using portable audiometers. He is involved in multiple studies, including a TBI study sponsored by the NFL.

    LTC Crawford has a professional interest in hearing rehabilitation, including cochlear implantation and implantable middle ear hearing devices. In addition, he has an active clinical practice where he manages patients with the full spectrum of neurotologic diseases.

  • LTC Kristen (Kristy) Casto, AuD, PhD

    Audiology and Hearing Program Consultant to the Army Surgeon General

    LTC Kristen Casto is a member of the Executive Committee for the Hearing Center of Excellence. Currently, is assigned to the Office of the Army Surgeon General where she serves as staff officer in G-357 and Health and Wellness Directorate, and is the Audiology and Hearing Program Consultant to the Army Surgeon General.

    In previous assignments, she managed military installation hearing programs at Ft. Riley, Kansas; Ft. Rucker, Alabama; Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and conducted and directed auditory research at the U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. LTC Casto earned an AuD from Central Michigan University and a PhD in Human Factors Engineering from Virginia Tech. LTC Casto is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, is a member of the Military Audiology Association, and serves as President-Elect of the National Hearing Conservation Association.
